Brouwerij Loterbol

Description

This brewery used to be called “Brouwerij De Brouwketel” and was situated at the following address: Weelbroek, Diest.
One of the stones from the old brewery dating back to 1706 can be seen in the current Loterbol pub and brings to mind that brewing activities were probably already taking place at that time.
The then owners, in chronological order: Jan Ludovicus Troosters, 1852: Troosters' children, 1884: Carolus Duysters–Troosters, 1904: Edmond Duysters–Peeters, 1936: M. Duysters-Marchal, 1968: NV Duysters up to the end in 1973, up to 1985 warehouse NV Duysters - Ooms – Cerkel.

Craft brewery Loterbol was set up in 1995 in a renovated part of the original brewery dating back to the 18th century. In 2002 a new brew-house was set up in the brewery building dating back to 1908.
The brewers from Diest used to brew wheat beers and white beers ("witbier") and it wasn't just them, consider the other well-known brewing towns in the area: Aarschot, Leuven, Hoegaarden. From the 1860s / 1870s the brewers in Diest started to produce dark beers, better known under the name "Diesters". Brouwerij Duysters was in particular known for its "Royale" (a very dark, black beer of the guild beer type) and for its brown table beers.
